Welcome to Mark & Clint's Online Home
Voyage to the North - July 13, 2008
This past weekend we loaded up the Hurricane
The McKay-Remarcik Hurricane and headed North. We weren't sure whether our destination was Voyageurs National Park, or the North Shore of Lake Superior. Once we got to Duluth, we decided we should check off another National Park from our list, so we hopped on Highway 53 toward International Falls. We arrived just before dusk and chose campsite #38 for it's beautiful view of Lake Kabetogama (and the Hurricane actually fit). The weather was not conducive to boation (we were going to rent a canoe or boat, but it didn't make sense), so we just did some biking, hiking, visited the visitors centers at Lake Kabetogema, Ash River, and Rainy Lake. On our way to the latter, we stopped in International Falls for some groceries and went to the movies (Hellboy II). On the way home, we decided we would take the scenic route on Minnesota Highway 1 through Ely and to the North Shore. We stopped for 4 hours of hiking at Tettegouche State Park, and another hour at Gooseberry Falls. We gave thought to staying the night in Duluth, then opted to just drive home.
We are still building our Pre-Paid Legal Business, slowly but surely. We are Senior Associates and now have 11 associates on our team in four states (MN, SD, MO, and TX). We were extremely saddened by the death of our Regional Manager, Lisa Dumke. She was an inspiration and a class act, and she will be missed greatly. Later this month we will attend Super Sunday with special guest Patrick Shaw, and in early September we are off to Las Vegas for the Leadership Summit. As always, we welcome questions and hope you will all give consideration to our excellent suite of products to protect yourself, your family, and your buiness.
Only 5 weeks until we head west again in a near repeat of our Westeward 2007 voyage, though this time in fall, without snow, and in a Hurricane instead of a Kodiak. Clint has mandatory meetings back in Minneapolis so he will either fly home for them and then back to Seattle, or will just meet Mark and our friend Jeff in Seattle for the tournament and the trip back. Westbound we plan on visiting Yellowstone again, then up to the Grand Coolee Dam and possibly North Cascades, which we missed last time around. We hope to see Rainier and St. Helens while we are there.
Summer is of course clipping along at a lightening speed pace. Ian and AJ are still rooming with us, though AJ is looking to purchase a house of his own soon. We finally had concrete poured for the basement patio and have started erecting the posts and beams for the main level of the deck. We also finished the deckboards for the garage level over the 4th of July weekend. We drove to the top of the SW Station parking lot to watch the actual fireworks, so it was a pretty low key weekend as Clint had to work.
The Minnesota Twins had an amazing June and the start of July has been similar. Travis, Stacy, and Adam Joined us for a quick trek in the Hurricane to the Milwaukee Brewer's Miller Park for a game against the Twins. On the way out, we stopped at Stacy's parents' home, and on the way back, ad Adam's grandparents' cabin and his parents' house. We had to avoid Interstate 94 due to flooding.
This fall Mark will continue his work as a Instructional Techonology Fellow with CLA and he will be taking one of two final classes to finish up his PhD Coursework. He hopes to travel to Paraguay to prepare for field work there the following year. Clint starts a Master Program in Microbial Engineering and is excited to be back at the University of Minnesota. Once again we will be in school together at the U of M.
The rest of summer is certain to be a whirlwind, but we will do our best to update the site.
